I’m happy to let you all know that I’m hired by R5 Ltd, UK to work on the next major release of WPRemix – a popular Premium WordPress CMS Theme.
The new release will be WPRemix 4.0 and will have a whole lot of new features. The official release date and list of features is yet to be finalized.

Just completed the upgrade of this WordPress blog from WordPress 2.8 to WordPress 2.9.2.

Also, upgraded all the plugins!!!

Its been a long time, rather very long time since I posted something. I was busy handling personal stuffs, laziness added to it and didn’t allow me to spend some time for blogging.
Lots had happened during the past year and I missed out to share them all. My career has changed and I’m now a freelancer working on PHP/MySQL projects and several WordPress Themes/Plugins.
I’m going to try my best to put my laziness and various reasons apart and start blogging actively again.

To start with I’m upgrading this WordPress installation to latest version – WordPress 2.9.2

Also, for long time I’m planning to design a WordPress Theme for myself and I keep procrastinating. My personal deadline to design a new theme is April 1st, I’m not fooling…! believe me…!!! Let’s see how it goes…!!!

Finally, I want to let you all know that I’m back!!!

WordPress 2.8 Released – Upgraded from WP 2.7.1 to WP 2.8

This site is running using WordPress – an open source blogging software.

WordPress is a state-of-the-art publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time.

I downloaded the tar ball of latest version i.e. WordPress 2.7.1 from http://wordpress.org/latest.tar.gz

Extracted it to …./tamilg.in/public/

Then created database and user for WordPress in MySQL command line.

–Create database
CREATE DATABASE database_name;

–Create user (Optional)
CREATE USER ‘username’ IDENTIFIED BY ‘password’;

–Grant permission to user on that database
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON database_name.* TO ‘username’@'localhost’ IDENTIFIED BY ‘password’;

Then copied wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php and updated DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD, DB_HOST. Added some random characters to AUTH_KEY, SECURE_AUTH_KEY, LOGGED_IN_KEY and NONCE_KEY.

Now opened the page http://tamilg.in/ in the browser and it asked for the Blog Title and Email Id. Clicked on the Install WordPress button and got the admin password.

The first step I always follow is to login to the WordPress Dashboard and change the password to something easy to remember.

Now that the basic installtion is complete. Next step is to upload/activate necessary plugins for a standard blog. This includes All-in-One SEO, Google Analytics, XML-Sitemap and Share/Save Buttons. I’m yet to API key for Akismet – TODO task pending!!!

I downloaded the Fusion theme from WordPress Theme repository and extracted to the theme folder and activated it.

Last step??? Started blogging!!!
