Delhi Daredevils won their match against Rajasthan Royals by 14 runs. Rajasthan Royal now need to win their only other league match and hope that either Deccan Charger or Kings XI Punjab to lose their league match.

Sehwag the captain of Delhi Daredevils won the toss and elected to bat first. Gambhir and Sehwag opened the innings for Delhi. Both the openers got out in the 3 over of the match bowled by Munaf Patel. Gambhir was caught and bowled for 8(8) while Sehwag got out lbw for 2(8). AB de Villiers and Dilshan joined to steady the innings and they took the score to 66/2 at strategic time out. They both played well and put on 87 runs for the third wicket. Dilshan scored 33 runs in 41 ball and got out bowled by Botha. Delhi Daredevils were struggling at 115/2 after 18 overs. Munaf came to bowl and conceded 25 runs in the 19 over and this turned out to be the turning point of the match. They scored another 10 runs in last over and reached 150 just losing 3 wickets. AB de Villiers played well for his 79 not out of just 55 balls. Shane Warne used 8 bowlers but none of them could really put any pressure on Delhi batsman.

Yuvraj Singh took yet another hat trick, his second in this IPL T20. He’s the only bowler to have two hat tricks in IPL. Kings XI Punjab clinched yesterday’s nail bitter winning by just 1 run against Deccan Chargers.

Gilchrist won the toss again and elected to field first. His strategies are clear to restrict the opposition and chace down the target. His strategy didn’t work as his batting power house consisting of himself, Gibbs, Rohit Sharma, Symonds, Suman and Rao couldn’t do the trick today.

Sohal and Katich opened the innings for Kings XI Punjab. Sohal tried to be aggressive but couldn’t do much and got out trying to scoop the ball over short fine leg. He scored 9(12) caught by Rohit Sharma of the bowling of RP Singh. Pomersbach was the next man in and retuned back quickly, run out by Gibbs for 1 run. Katich was the next wicket caught by Ojha at mid on of the bowling of Symonds and the Kings XI were struggling at 26/3. Yuvraj and Sangakkara joined in the middle to steady the innings. They managed to add 26 runs for the fourth wicket before a straighter deliver from Venugopal Rao disturbed the middle stumps of Yuvraj. Yuvraj looked settled with 20 runs in 18 balls. Kings XI Punjab scored 55/4 in their first 10 overs. Mota and Sangakkara took the score to 105/4 at the end of 16 overs. Suman got the better of Mota who was looking to break free, caught at mid wicket by Harris. Sangakkara also got out at crucial stage for 56 runs of just 43 balls. Irfan Pathan scored quick 17 runs in 11 balls. Lee played 5 balls and couldn’t manage a single out of that. Kings XI Punjab ended their innings scoring 134 for the loss of 7 wickets. RP Singh was the pick of the bowler took 3/26 and got back the purple cap.

IPL T20 – Victory continues to be a Nightmare for Knight Riders

Deccan Chargers won by 6 wickets against Kolkata Knight Riders in yesterday’s second match, Match No. 48 of DLF IPL 2009 held at New Wanderers, Johannesburg. It looked like Kolkata Knight Riders might break their losing steak when Deccan Chargers needed 21 of the last over. But Rohit Sharma took away little chance by scoring them without panicking. Kolkata Knight riders lost their 8th match in a row and have two more matches to make it 10 in a row.

Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to field on a good batting pitch. McCullum and Ganguly opened the innings for Kolkata Knight Riders. McCullum was the first man to be dismissed and top edged a slower delivery from Harris to Suman at square leg. He scored 20 runs from 18 balls. Ganguly struggled to put bat on ball. Deccan Chargers bowled well not giving away anything. Knight Riders just managed 50/1 in their first 10 overs with Ganguly on 14(23) and Hodge on 13(19). It looked like Knight Riders will be restricted to below 120. Ganguly continued to struggle and was caught at long-off by Harris of the bowling of Rohit Sharma. Ganguly took 41 balls to score 33 runs.  Hussey was the next batsman and his intentions were clear to clear the boundary. Hodge got out for 48 runs(41 balls) in the similar fashion like McCullum to a slower delivery from Harris. Kolkata Knight Riders were struggling at 118/3 after 18 overs. But the next over yielded 28runs, the maximum runs scored in an over in this IPL. RP Singh started the over but bowled 2 no balls over waist-high and he was taken out of the attack. He just bowled 1 legal delivery and conceded 8 runs. Harmeet Singh continued the over and Hussey hit him all over the park scoring 20 runs in 5 balls. The over looked like (1nb, 1, 4nb, 4, 2, 2, 6, 6) and all of a sudden Kolkata reached 146 with 6 balls to spare. Saha and Hussey got out in the last over after scoring a six each in previous ball. At the end of 20 overs Kolkata Knight Riders scored 160/5 including 42 runs in last 2 overs.

A good day for Chennai Super Kings as they moved to the semi finals beating Mumbai Indians by 7 Wickets in yesterday’s match held in St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth.

Sachin Tendulkar captain of Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first. Sanath Jayasuriya and Bravo opened the innings. Morkel bowled a superb yorker to dislodge the off stump of Bravo in the first ball of third over. Duminy was the next man in. Poor fielding of Chennai Super Kings continued and they gave away two boundaries in two balls instead of singles. Jayasuriya break free during 5th over and hit 2 sixes and 2 fours. He lost his wicket in the last ball of powerplay trying to hit over the top after scoring quick 30 runs in 17 balls. Tyagi was the bowler and Raina pouched the catch at covers. Sachin joined Duminy to consolidate the Mumbai innings. During strategic break the score was 75/3. Raina took the wicket of Sachin immediately after the break. Muralidaran and Raina bowled some tight overs and conceded only 26 Runs in 5 overs after break. Dhoni missed an easy stumping chance of Nayar of the bowling of Raina.  Duminy played well and got yet another fifty in this IPL. He was runout by Morkel in the last over after scoring 62 runs in 54balls. Mumbai Indians just managed to score 147/5 in 20 overs. Chennai Super Kings bowled well to restrict Mumbai Indians to below 150.

It was a day for Royal(s) - Royal Challengers and Rajasthan Royals – as they won their matches yesterday, both the matches were nail bitters and went to the last over – real thrillers.

MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat on a good batting wicket. Vijay and Hayden opened the innings. Kumble bowled the tidy first over for just 4 runs. Hayden took the attack back to Bangalore scoring 16runs in the next over bowled by Vinay Kumar. Vijay was the first to go and he struggled for his 5 runs of 9 balls. Kallis got the wicket of Vijay in his first over and the 4th of the match, a wicket maiden over. The inform Raina couldn’t do much this time and got out in the second over of Kallis after scoring 13(10). Dhoni joined Hayden when the score was 48/2 in 5.4 overs. They played sensible cricket not giving away any chance to the opposition and took the score to 72/2 at strategic break. Dhoni got out to a stunning catch by van der Merwe and he scored 18(20). Hayden got out in the next over from Kumble to a good catch at midwicket. Hayden scored 60 runs in just 38 balls and the score was 101/4 in 13.2 overs. This wicket really turned things around for Royal Challengers as the other batsman struggled to score runs and got out in quick successions. Chennai Super Kings were bowled out for 129 in 19.4 overs. Kallis, Kumble and Vinay Kumar got 2 wickets each. Royal Challengers Bangalore fielded exceptionally well in this match.
